Hello No Impact Week Participants,
Thank you for registering for our pre-Thanksgiving carbon-cleanse. Nothing like a little resource-detox to get you ready for the holiday frenzy. This e-mail contains all of the information you will need to get ready for and participate in your No Impact Experiment. To understand how this week works, please click here. If you have questions, please visit our FAQ's or contact Stephanie (that's me) at the No Impact Project.
GUIDE
Here's an updated version of the how-to manual, including terrific new links to resources on Simple Steps. You can download the guide or click on "full screen" to view it on-line. We recommend reading the first half of it before Sunday. You will probably need to prepare for Tuesday (transportation) and Wednesday (food) a few days in advance.
BLOGGING
Step 4 for each day asks you to share your experiences with other participants. We have created a very user-friendly platform where you can read and write about your No Impact Week. Click here and register then read the instructions listed on the top of the homepage. Join the Simple Steps group or create your own. Come back each evening to share your writing, photos and videos about that day's experience. If you are not tech-savvy, not to worry, e-mail us and we'll walk you through this. Note: participation on the blog is not a requirement but past participants have greatly benefited from meeting other people and sharing their experience.
SURVEYS
Tomorrow we will send you a pre-experiment survey, which should take 3-5 minutes to fill out. This survey was developed under the supervision of Dr. Tim Kasser, a psychologist and book author known for his work on materialism and well-being. Beginning Sunday night we will send you a daily 60-second survey to help you reflect on your day and to help us gage the impact of each day's challenge. We will not share your information with anyone, this is completely anonymous. You will notice that many of our questions focus on the personal benefits of living lower-impact. This is because the No Impact Experiment is not just about spending a week deeply immersing yourself in green living, it's also about discovering the emotional benefits (i.e. bicycling is not only better for the planet, it also feels awesome). Note: If you do not receive the surveys, there are three possible reasons why. 1)If you've ever opted out of a survey from Survey Monkey we will not be able to send you a daily survey, visit surveymonkey.com to opt-in. 2)Please check your spam to make sure that the survey has not been automatically dumped. 3)If you have a spam blocker, you will not receive our information e-mails or our surveys unless you add this e-mail address to your safe list: experiment@noimpactproject.org.
E-mail us with questions/concerns/comments, we're here to help.
Good luck this week,
Stephanie
