BLUE-SKY THINKING: The skies are reopening over Europe today, even amid reports that a new ash cloud is spreading southward from Iceland's ongoing volcanic eruption. The 
SALT UNDER ASSAULT: The Food and Drug Administration is planning to gradually wean Americans off of sodium, the Washington Post reports, scaling back the country's salt intake over several years in an effort to reduce U.S. rates of hypertension and heart disease. It would amount to the first-ever legal limits on salt content in food, and the FDA will work with the food industry and health experts to roll out the new changes slowly, so Americans' palates can adjust to their less salty diet. "This is a 10-year program," one FDA source tells the Post. "This is not rolling off a log. We're talking about a comprehensive phase-down of a widely used ingredient. We're talking about embedded tastes in a whole generation of people." Nearly 80 percent of all salt in American diets comes from processed foods, which makes it difficult for consumers to cut back by simply shunning the salt shaker, which only contributes about 11 percent of overall intake. "We can't just rely on the individual to do something," one epidemiologist tells the Post. "Food manufacturers have to reduce the amount of sodium in foods." Many food makers are already doing so voluntarily, including Conagra, Kraft Foods, General Mills, Sara Lee and others, but not everyone is on board with the idea. SECOND CHANCE FOR SHUTTLE SIGHTINGS: Monday's planned landing of space shuttle Discovery was waved off because of bad weather in Florida. The postponement sets the stage for another try on Tuesday. Once again, Discovery is slated to reenter Earth's atmosphere over the continental United States, and many sky watchers--especially in the northwestern USA and neighboring Canada--could witness a beautiful pre-dawn reentry. The exact ground track depends on weather and whether mission controllers decide to send Discovery to land in Florida or California. Nominally, Discovery would pass diagonally across the country, passing over, e.g., Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Jacksonville en route to a 7:34 am EDT landing at the Kennedy Space Center. On the other hand, a redirect to Edwards Air Force Base would strongly favor observers in California. Texas - 03-24-10 - We had heard of UFO activity in our area, so we headed up to the hilltop at the end of Vivian street in Ranger, Texas, in hopes of catching a glimpse of one.
We were prepared with our gear, which included an 250 mw green laser and digital camera. We wanted to test the area where strange lights had been reported.
We wanted to see if the green laser beam would bend toward the craft, and indicate the use of a gravity generator or worm hole technology.
We shined the green laser far into the night sky. Over a 30 minute period we saw many aircraft in the area. A couple of military jets flew overhead.
We commented on the likelihood of not seeing anything with the jets in the area. Ten minutes after the passing of the jets and continued use of the green laser to attract attention to ourselves, we weren't seeing anything out of the ordinary.
But then my friend noticed something about 1/2 mile away above the tree line. It had a series of 5 lights. The light on the far right seemed to flicker and electrical sparks seemed to be coming from the area on the far right.
I pulled the green laser out and made a circle around the craft. The laser light did not distort, but could not be seen shooting past the object. I was tempted to put the laser directly on the craft, but had second thoughts about how that might be taken.
I struggled to pull the camera out of my pocket, and the craft and lights simply disappeared before the lens opened. We are excited about the laser test. We are trying to figure out if distorting gravity would alter light projection. Source: www.mufon.com
Texas - 03-31-10 - At approximately 8:30 PM, I was driving south on Hwy 183 between Breckenridge and Cisco. I was in Eastland County about 6-7 miles northeast of Cisco when white lights appeared suddenly to my southeast and caught my attention.
My view of the lights was somewhat obstructed, but the lights appeared to be stationary and in a wedge-shaped formation. They were located to the east of 183 and to the south of 112. After about two seconds, the lights disappeared.
I had traveled about another 1/4 mile when I saw a short flash of white light traveling upwards at an angle. My view was obstructed by trees. This light was very low to the ground, lasted for less than a second, and was almost directly to my east and closer to the highway.
After I had gone a little further down the highway, a line of white lights appeared in the same relative position to where I had seen the wedge of lights. The lights came on simultaneously and went off simultaneously after about a second or two. They appeared to be stationary, in a perfectly straight line, and evenly spaced. Source: www.mufon.com
Texas - 04-02-10 - We were enjoying Good Friday with family south of Yoakum, Texas. My husband and his son and our grandchild spotted what they thought was a vehicle traveling along the upper ridge of the property.
Immediately we jumped into the car and went to see the object, thinking it was a red vehicle. There was no vehicle in sight and there were no gates that a vehicle could have gone through.
The "vehicle" disappeared quickly and there were no signs of tire tracks... after considering this scene, I began to consider a UFO as I have been studying them for awhile now, and it had to be something in the air. Source: www.mufon.com
Texas - 04-02-10 - I went just outside my home to let my dog outside and because of its brightness, I noticed a very intense, amber-colored light about 20 degrees off the horizon in the southwestern sky around 2110 hours.
I tried to determine if the light was a nebula or star, but realized there are none this low to the horizon. The light did not move.
It remained on for about 10 seconds after I spotted it, and then it suddenly blinked out, like a light switch turned it off. I kept looking at the spot I had seen the light, and then it reappeared in a couple of seconds, only it had moved (horizontally) in what appeared to be a northerly direction.
It remained at around 20 degrees from the horizon. The light remained on for about 10 more seconds and again suddenly blinked out as it had before.
There is no way I can explain exactly how far it actually moved. I left the area to get my video camera and videotaped the area of sky for the next 10 minutes, but it never reappeared. Source: www.mufon.com

PARIS — As an increasingly large part of European airspace was shut down for the third day on Saturday and the towering fountain of ash from an Icelandic volcano showed no signs of letting up, questions about the long-term impact of the eruption were being raised in a continent trying to recover from recession.

With airports closed from Ireland to Ukraine, officials expressed hope that some air travel could resume Sunday, or possibly Monday, but the workings of Iceland's volcano were too mysterious to make rational predictions about it. Winds pushed the particulate ash farther south and east on Saturday, as far as northern Italy.
About 17,000 flights were canceled Saturday, and travelers scrambled to find accommodation or land routes home during what is already the worst disruption in international air travel since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, when all air travel in and out of the United States was halted for three days.
While the closing of the airways has already laid waste to the immediate plans and business of industry, the arts and world leaders, the possibility that it could drag on for days, if not weeks, is raising concerns about the longer term consequences for public health, military operations and the world economy.
The disaster is estimated to be costing airlines $200 million a day, but the economic damage will roll through to farms, retail establishments and nearly any other business that depends on air cargo shipments. Fresh produce will spoil, and supermarkets in Europe, used to year-round supplies, will begin to run out.
But unless flights are disrupted for weeks, threatening factories' supply chains, economists do not think the crisis will significantly affect gross domestic product.
"If it really drags on another week that could be really serious," said Peter Westaway, chief economist for Europe at the Nomura investment bank. The air travel shutdown could affect productivity, he said, if hundreds of thousands of people miss work or are not able to do business because they are stuck in limbo somewhere.
He would know. He was speaking by cellphone from Tokyo where he was watching British soccer on a barroom TV at 3 a.m. and waiting for news of when he might be able to get back to his office in London.
"We don't understand how interconnected we are until you can't do it anymore," he said.
The shutdown has also affected American military operations. Military supplies for operations in Afghanistan have been disrupted, and a spokeswoman for the Pentagon said that all medical evacuation flights from Iraq and Afghanistan to Germany, where most injured soldiers are typically treated, were being diverted directly to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.
Within the European Command, some routine resupply missions and movement of personnel missions have been diverted or delayed, she said.
The World Health Organization issued an advisory saying that as long as the ash remains in the upper atmosphere, there is not likely to be increased health risk. So far, analysis of the ash shows that about a quarter of the particles are smaller than 10 microns, making them more dangerous because they can penetrate more deeply into the lungs, the W.H.O. said.
In Britain, where a layer of fine dust is already covering large areas of the country, the authorities are advising those with respiratory problems to stay indoors or wear masks out of doors.
But experts said most people had no reason to be alarmed. Dr. Neil W. Schluger, chief scientific officer for the World Lung Foundation, said people with asthma or lung disease could stay indoors or wear a mask to avoid irritation, but that there was little real danger, especially with the ash falling so far from the source.
"The bottom line," said Dr. Ronald G. Crystal, chief of pulmonology at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital, "is there's no longterm health effect from volcanic ash."
International transportation, however, was still what the front page of the French newspaper Le Parisien called "La Grande Pagaille" — the big mess.
Europe's three largest airports — London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Paris-Charles de Gaulle — were all shut on Saturday, with officials hoping that flights could resume sometime on Sunday or, more likely, Monday. Britain, France, Germany and Ireland banned most commercial air traffic for another day. Airports in northern Italy were closed on Saturday. European airlines said that up to 70 percent of flights scheduled for Saturday were canceled as backlogs increased. .
The ash cloud was also wreaking havoc on sporting events and concerts as athletes and musicians canceled appearances.
It also scuttled routine diplomacy, an effect most evident in the dwindling guest list of dignitaries planning to attend the state funeral on Sunday for President Lech Kaczynski of Poland and his wife, who died in a plane crash last week. On Saturday, at least a dozen delegations canceled plans to attend, including those of President Obama, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany and Prince Charles of Britain.
President Valdis Zatlers of Latvia embarked Saturday on a 14-hour car trip so he could attend.
Mrs. Merkel had to spend Friday night in Lisbon after returning from the United States. She made it to Rome on Saturday and was expected to continue her journey by bus after spending the night in northern Italy, The Associated Press reported.

European finance ministers, meeting in Madrid, cut short sessions and press conferences to try to get home. Hotel cars were charging $5,600 to drive to Paris, according to Reuters, while journalists were being offered a bus ride to Brussels.
The airline industry was the first economic casualty. Steve Lott, a spokesman for the International Air Transport Association, said that with the conservative estimate of a $200 million loss in revenue per day, "we could easily hit a billion dollars' loss in revenue next week."
"The bottom line is that it could not have happened at a more difficult time for airlines that are trying to climb out of the global recession," he said. "It's been that way, many airlines feel like they take one step forward, two steps back."
At Air France, Hervé Erschler, a company spokesman, sounded exhausted. "We don't know exactly how many of our flights got canceled," he admitted, "but I can tell you that right now there is literally no traffic."
Even FedEx abandoned its pledge to absolutely, positively get it there overnight, if "there" meant northern Europe. More than 100 FedEx flights have been rerouted, diverted or canceled, said Carla Boyd, a company spokeswoman. She said 15 airports that FedEx serves directly have been closed.
At least one major airline, Lufthansa, expressed frustration at what it suggested was excessive caution by the German authorities, who kept every German airport closed to air traffic for a second day. Amélie Schwierholz, a Lufthansa spokeswoman in Frankfurt, said the company had flown a large jet from Munich to Frankfurt on Saturday without passengers but without incident, although at a lower altitude than normal.
But German officials defended their decision. "What's more important, the safety of passengers or business?" asked Helmut Malewski, a meteorologist at the German Weather Service. "No one knows how to deal with this situation. We're erring on the side of safety."
So was British Airways, which canceled all flights until Monday morning, and Asian airlines, which canceled flights in and out of Europe. Cathay Pacific said it would stop taking such reservations for several days, while Qantas encouraged "customers who have somewhere to stay to remain where they are."
The volcano, meanwhile, continued to defy predictions. Clive Oppenheimer, a volcanologist at the University of Cambridge, said the average span of a volcanic eruption is a month or two. In the case of Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano, he said, scientists need to know more about how much molten rock is beneath it, but concluded, "We could see intermittent activity over the coming months."
But Leo Liao, a Hong Kong businessman who was stranded at the Frankfurt airport, was cheerful and philosophical. "It's a natural issue," he said. "Never complain. You can't change this."

Thousands of travelers bound for Europe remained in limbo in the United States on Saturday, waiting for a volcanic ash cloud an ocean away to clear.
United States carriers canceled the majority of their transatlantic flights again, and Continental said it was adding Rome and Barcelona to its list of canceled destinations on Saturday. Most American carriers extended their travel waivers until April 22 for passengers to rebook, but even that date was not a guarantee that operations would return to normal.
At Kennedy International Airport, about 1,000 people are camping out at the terminal with no place to go. The nearby hotels are booked and staying in Manhattan is not a financial option for some.
Officials at the airport are providing baby formula, diapers and water, along with cots, said John Kelly, a spokesman for the Port Authority for New York and New Jersey, which operates the New York area's three airports.
"We recognize we have to look after people" because some have no choices, Mr. Kelly said in a telephone interview. "So far people have been calm and cool-headed."
Concessions are open, and some airlines have provided vouchers for food. The lack of shower facilities is a concern.
More than 30 New York City hotels were offering a 15 percent discount to stranded travelers through Monday, on every kind of level from the trendy (Ace Hotel) to the economical (Econo Lodge Times Square). The discount applied to some airport shuttle bus services as well.
About 200 people were stranded at Newark Liberty International Airport early Saturday evening, Mr. Kelly said, and that number was decreasing. However, other international airports that do not serve as major hubs seemed to be avoiding the temporary conversion to campground.
"We're not seeing large numbers stranded at Dulles at all," said Courtney Mickalonis, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. A spokesman for Massport said Boston's Logan International Airport also had only a few people stranded after the first day of ash-related cancellations.
Delta canceled 91 flights Saturday and 86 for Sunday, said a spokesman, Anthony Black. "Our goal is to keep U.S. passengers from arriving in hubs and getting stuck," Mr. Black said in an e-mail, adding that Delta has advised passengers not to travel if their flight to Europe is not assured. The airline is offering full refunds for canceled flights. He added that passengers in Europe are "either home waiting to travel or we are assisting them getting reduced-rate hotels."
Continental canceled 67 flights into and out of Europe, mostly out of its Newark hub, and the airline was offering travel waivers to 26 destinations, including Barcelona and Rome, where air travel had previously been less affected by the ash cloud.
United Airlines was still flying from the U.S. to Rome on Saturday afternoon, said Charlie Hobart, a spokesman for the airline, but "that's even a little iffy right now." United canceled 54 flights into and out of Europe on Saturday.
American Airlines said it had canceled most of its flights into and out of Europe, for a total of 56 flights. Tim Smith, a company spokesman, said that the airline had been able to operate flights into and out of Spain and Italy on Saturday.
"At this point," Mr. Smith said in a statement, "we don't have a clear indication of when we'll be able to resume a normal schedule."
British Airways has canceled all of its 40 daily flights into and out of 19 U.S. cities.
Yet there was good news for passengers booked on Icelandair flights from Boston and Seattle on Saturday evening to Reykjavik, 85 miles east of the volcano responsible for all the cancellations: both flights were expected to depart on schedule. That airport has not closed since the eruption.

Rare Shuttle Re-entry over the Continental USA

SPACE SHUTTLE RE-ENTRY: On Monday morning, April 19th, space shuttle Discovery will make a rare "descending node" reentry over the continental United States. The returning spacecraft will pass over or close to many towns and cities en route to landing in Florida at 8:48 am EDT, including Fort Peck Lake, Montana; Pierre, South Dakota; Sioux City, Iowa; St. Louis, Missouri; Tupelo, Mississippi, Birmingham, Alabama, and Jacksonville, Florida. Observers along western parts of the ground track could see the shuttle blazing through pre-dawn darkness. As Discovery makes its way east, it will enter daylight and fade into the bright blue background. If you can't see the shuttle, however, you might be able to hear it. Regaló con ello la primera parte del juego, eso sumado a que debutó al lateral derecho Germán Rodríguez para completar el tiempo reglamentario de menores, aparte que los elementos que puso en el once inicial tuvieron una actitud apática, muy lejana a la garra y lucha en la disputa de balones divididos que pidió la víspera el presidente del club, Guillermo Álvarez Cuevas.

El Puebla logró la segunda anotación a través de un gol olímpico de Felipe Ayala quien cobró el tiro de esquina por sector izquierdo, el balón pasó de larga sin que nadie hiciera hacer contacto y se incrustó en la red para el 2-0, al 35.
Tres minutos después, Felipe Ayala por sector derecho mandó centro y en el corazón del área saltó Hérculez Gómez quien le ganó a dos defensores para rematar con fuerza, poner el 3-0 y llegar a 10 anotaciones.
Al minuto 45, nuevamente Felipe Ayala mandó centro por costado derecho donde Joaquín Velázquez remató con la cabeza para poner el 4-0 ante la algarabía de los presentes que despidieron a su equipo entre aplausos.

De ganarle a San Luis el equipo Santos laguna estaría calificandose a la liguilla del Bicentenario, el San Luis viene de complicarle un juego al superlíder, Rayados
TORREÓN, Coahuila (18 de abril).- Santos Laguna buscará amarrar la calificación este lunes por la noche, cuando reciba a los Gladiadores de San Luis en el cierre de la Jornada 16 del Torneo Bicentenario 2010.
Tras lo acontecido el fin de semana, el cuadro que dirige Rubén Omar Romano está en posición de avanzar a la Liguilla, para lo cual necesita un triunfo sobre la escuadra potosina que, por su parte, sin nada qué pelear, está tratando de cerrar bien y sumar puntos que le ayuden a mejorar en la tabla porcentual.
El encuentro iniciará a las 19:00 horas en el Estadio Corona, donde los laguneros apenas el pasado miércoles igualaron a un gol ante el Monterrey, resultado que no agradó a su afición, por lo que queda esa deuda pendiente que deberían saldar hoy.
Sin embargo, la situación dentro del equipo está un poco tensa luego de las protestas que han realizado Carlos Darwin y Matías Vuoso hacia el técnico santista, ya sea por no incluirlos en la alineación o por sacarlos de los partidos.
Pero es la recta del torneo y los laguneros necesitan sacudirse de la mala racha por la que atraviesan, pues vienen con tres derrotas al hilo (Guadalajara, Jaguares y Pumas) y un empate, por lo que espera conseguir los tres puntos que no lo hace desde la jornada 11 ante Puebla y retomar la senda de la victoria.
Y es que resulta extraño que tras un inicio de torneo prometedor, ahora la situación sea completamente lo contrario. Suman 25 puntos, buscarán cerrar fuerte, ya que Cruz Azul le pisa los talones a una unidad del mismo, mientras que Pumas ya le saca tres puntos de ventaja con su triunfo sobre el Morelia.
La poderosa delantera lagunera no ha aparecido recientemente; suma tres goles en los últimos cuatro juegos, mismos en los que acumula tres derrotas y un empate, mientras que en la defensa tampoco han estado finos, han recibido 11 anotaciones en esos cuatro juegos sin sumar de a tres.
La buena noticia para los albiverdes sería la posible reaparición del delantero Vicente Matías Vuoso luego de haber cumplido con su juego de sanción, aunque lo más probable es que no vaya de inicio; además ha recuperado a casi todos los jugadores que han estado lesionados, solo falta que se reintegre Carlos Adrián Morales, a quien se le espera en un par de semanas más.
Si Santos gana estaría calificado y eso les daría la tranquilidad necesaria para encarar la Jornada 17 en el Estadio Azteca contra el América.
Por lo que respecta al San Luis, no ha tenido un buen torneo intentará ganar sus últimos tres encuentros. Los potosinos suman 11 puntos producto de dos victorias, cinco empates y ocho derrotas dentro del Grupo 1.
A pesar de tener un pésimo inicio de torneo, la directiva de San Luis, confía en el trabajo de Ignacio Ambriz para que siga al mando del equipo.
Estos equipos se han enfrentado 17 veces, Santos tiene ventaja con nueve victorias a cambio de tres descalabros; en cinco ocasiones igualaron.
En esos enfrentamientos se han anotado 53 goles, un promedio de 3.12 por cotejo, pero 30 de los tantos llegaron en los últimos siete cotejos, promedio de 4.29.

El cuadro de Daniel Guzmán vino de atrás y con dos anotaciones de Francisco Acuña a los 66' y 69', remontaron y se quedaron con los tres puntos en su visita al Andrés Quintana Roo.

OEM.- Los Gallos Blancos del Querétaro derrotaron 1-0 a Estudiantes Tecos en el Estadio Corregidora, dentro de la jornada 16 del Torneo Bicentenario 2010 de la Primera División. El único gol del partido fue obra de Isaac Romo en el minuto 77.
El partido fue malo, sobre todo en el primer tiempo, los dos equipos muy defensivos, más el Querétaro, que tuvo problemas por la lesión de Mauro Vila apenas a los 32 minutos, Carlos Reynoso tuvo que hacer dos cambios porque con el primero desordenó al equipo, el tercero lo hizo empezando el segundo tiempo, en el que fue mejor, tuvo más llegada, pero sin claridad.
Miguel Herrera contestó realizando sus tres cambios, pero no superó a su maestro, hay que recordar que la primera oportunidad que tuvo el Piojo para dirigir en Primera División fue en Atlante tras la destitución de Carlos Reinoso.
Los Gallos fueron mejores al final y consiguieron su gol al minuto 77, habían dejado ir una grande al 75' porque Alvin Mendoza no supo culminar un contragolpe, pero el zurdo se sacó la espina poniendo un excelente servicio a Isaac Romo, el delantero hizo un gran remate para llegar a cinco tantos en el torneo.
En la última jornada, Querétaro visitará a San Luis y Estudiantes recibirá al Atlante.

Los Rojinegros del Atlas derrotaron 2-0 a las Chivas de Guadalajara en el Clásico Tapatío, en duelo correspondiente a la jornada 16 del Torneo Bicentenario 2010.
Los zorros generaron las mejores jugadas de peligro en el área enemiga en los minutos iniciales, y aprovecharon un error de Edgar Tepa Solís, con la velocidad de Hebert Alférez quién le ganó a Omar Esparza, apareciendo sólo frente a Liborio Sánchez para poner en ventaja a su equipo al minuto 13.
A pesar de que el Rebaño intentó por las bandas generar opciones de gol, demostró que sigue extrañando a los cinco jugadores (Luis Michel, Jonny Magallón, Adolfo Bautista, Alberto Medina y Javier Hernández) que fueron convocados por Javier Aguirre para integrar la Selección Mexicana en la segunda etapa de preparación rumbo al Mundial de Sudáfrica.
Atlas se quedó en inferioridad numérica tras la expulsión de Ricardo Jiménez al minuto 36, por una patada sobre Xabier Báez en el centro del campo.
Para la segunda mitad, Chivas saltó a la cancha con mayor ambición para conseguir el gol del empate, que lo pusiera de regreso en el partido.

A los siete minutos, Pachuca se vio con un hombre menos por la expulsión del argentino Darío Cvitanich. Sin embargo, los 'Tuzos' abrieron la cuenta a través de Leobardo López a los 25', quien marcó en posición de adelanto luego de un tiro libre servido desde la izquierda.
El empate de Toluca no tardó en llegar, ya que a los 38 minutos Manuel Pérez fusiló al portero Miguel Calero y decretó el empate a un gol, que a la postre sería definitivo.

MORELIA, Mich., 18 abril 2010.- Monarcas tendrá que esperar hasta el último juego del torneo regular, para definir su pase a la liguilla del Bicentenario 2010, luego de caer en el encuentro de la fecha 16 ante Pumas por marcador de 2-0.
La escuadra de Tomás Boy dominó el primer tiempo y al descanso se fueron con el empate parcial de 0-0, pero para el segundo tiempo, Ferretti hizo modificaciones y logró poco a poco tener más tiempo el balón. Tras una jugada a balón parado, los universitarios se fueron al frente y tuvieron mayor control del encuentro. Monarcas se quedó con 10 hombres, luego de la expulsión de Christian Sánchez, lo que fue bien aprovechado por la escuadra felina para conseguir el segundo tanto.
Fue en el arranque del partido que la escuadra michoacana tuvo sus oportunidades más claras para irse al frente en el marcador. Al minuto uno, Elías tomó el balón por derecha y mandó centro al área donde Luis Gabriel Rey se levantó para meter cabezazo. Pero Bernal dio muestra de su experiencia y envió a una mano el balón a tiro de esquina. Inmediatamente desués, el mismo Elías se animó a hacer un disparo desde fuera del área que apenas salió por encima del marco.
Droguett tuvo también oportunidad, luego de un centro de Elías Hernández. El balón le quedó ligeramente adelantado al chileno y no pudo rematar con comodidad. Corría apenas el minuto 5.
A los 9, Elías recibe el balón por derecha manda un potente disparo que pasa rozando el poste del marco defendido por Bernal.
Pumas logró acomodarse y tener más tiempo el control, pero La Monarquí no bajó los brazos y siguió insistiendo. Al minuto 19, la defensa felina estuvo en aprietas, luego de que Kalú cobrara un tiro libre que llegó al área donde Christian Sánchez logró hacer contacto el rebote le cayó a Luis Gabriel Rey, quien con la marca de Leandro, disparó. El balón llegó hasta Bernal que alejó el peligro.
Fue hasta el minuto 37 que Pumas reaccionó, tras un tiro libre de Ismael Íñiguez, que entre Cabrera y Verón desviaron Muñoz rechazó de puños y el balón le quedó a Dante López que dispara. La defensa manda a tiro de esquina.
Ya en la recta final del primer tiempo, Leandro buscó el primero con potente disparo en tiro libre que Muñoz consiguió atajar.
Para la segunda mitad, El Tuca hizo dos movimientos, sacó de la cancha a dos ex monarcas, Ismael Iñiguez y Carlos Humberto González, y entraron en su lugar Alex Diego y Óscar Rojas. Los cambios le funcionaron al técnico felino y Pumas comenzó a atacar. A los 46, Jehu Chiapas envió desde la banda derecha un centro que el capitán Romero logró rechazar. Sólo unos segundos después, el argentino tuvo que abandonar el terreno de juego por lesión y entró en su lugar Fernando Salazar.
Pumas aumentó la presión. Luis Fuentes disparo de media distancia tratando de sorprender, pero el balón se fue por un lado del marco.
Monarcas también tuvo las suyas. Al minuto 60, Marvin Cabrera manda por derecha un centro, buscando a Luis Gabriel Rey. Rojas se adelanta y de cabeza saca el balón del campo.
Dos minutos después, Jehú Chiapas robó el balón y llegó hasta el área, sacó un potente disparo de pierna izquierda que pegó por fuera de la red. Monarcas respondió con un desborde de Elías Hernández por la banda derecha. El moreliano mandó centro al área, pero Palacios logro alejar el peligro.
Pumas hizo su tercer cambio. Dante López dejó la cancha para que en su lugar entrara Franciso Palencia. Al minuto 67, Espinosa disparó desde fuera el del área y Muñoz evitó el peligro al mandar el balón por encima del marco.
La primera anotación de Pumas llegó al minuto 69 en un tiro libre. Jehu Chiapas cobró en corto para Rojas quien se acomodó y disparó desde fuera del área para vencer al arquero moreliano.
Tras el gol, Tomás hizo otro movimiento. Aldo Leao, luego de estar fuera de las canchas por lesión, regresó para ocupar el lugar de Kalú Gastélum. También Gabriel Pereyra salió y en su lugar ingresó al terreno de juego Jared Borgetti.
Monarcas estuvo cerca del empate, con un cabezazo de Luis Gabriel Rey, luego de un centro de Elías Hernández, el cual Bernal logró desviar con los puños por encima de la portería.
A nueve minutos de terminar el encuentro, Christian Sánchez cometió falta sobre Jehu Chiapas y el árbitro Morales le mostró el cartón rojo directo. Monarcas se quedó así con 10 elementos.
Pumas buscó sorprender de inmediato en el tiro libre. Chiapas mandó el balón al área donde Palencia logró hacer contacto, pero Muñoz estuvo atento.
Parecía que el marcador final sería de 1-0, pero Pumas consiguió el segundo. Era el minuto 89, cuando Rojas cobró un tiro de esquina por derecha. El balón fue al área, Palencia logró peinar, y Martín Bravo en el aire remató para superar al portero Muñoz.
Con este resultdo, Monarcas se queda con 24 puntos y permanece en la segunda posición del grupo 2. América y Pachuca tienen 22 unidades, por lo que será hasta la fecha 17 ante Monterrey que se defina la calificación.
El Equipo de la Fuerza viajará a Uruguay para enfrentar el próximo miércoles al Nacional de Uruguay dentro de la Copa Santander Libertadores.

MORELIA, Mich., 18 abril 2010.- Monarcas tendrá que esperar hasta el último juego del torneo regular, para definir su pase a la liguilla del Bicentenario 2010, luego de caer en el encuentro de la fecha 16 ante Pumas por marcador de 2-0.
La escuadra de Tomás Boy dominó el primer tiempo y al descanso se fueron con el empate parcial de 0-0, pero para el segundo tiempo, Ferretti hizo modificaciones y logró poco a poco tener más tiempo el balón. Tras una jugada a balón parado, los universitarios se fueron al frente y tuvieron mayor control del encuentro. Monarcas se quedó con 10 hombres, luego de la expulsión de Christian Sánchez, lo que fue bien aprovechado por la escuadra felina para conseguir el segundo tanto.
Fue en el arranque del partido que la escuadra michoacana tuvo sus oportunidades más claras para irse al frente en el marcador. Al minuto uno, Elías tomó el balón por derecha y mandó centro al área donde Luis Gabriel Rey se levantó para meter cabezazo. Pero Bernal dio muestra de su experiencia y envió a una mano el balón a tiro de esquina. Inmediatamente desués, el mismo Elías se animó a hacer un disparo desde fuera del área que apenas salió por encima del marco.
Droguett tuvo también oportunidad, luego de un centro de Elías Hernández. El balón le quedó ligeramente adelantado al chileno y no pudo rematar con comodidad. Corría apenas el minuto 5.
A los 9, Elías recibe el balón por derecha manda un potente disparo que pasa rozando el poste del marco defendido por Bernal.
Pumas logró acomodarse y tener más tiempo el control, pero La Monarquí no bajó los brazos y siguió insistiendo. Al minuto 19, la defensa felina estuvo en aprietas, luego de que Kalú cobrara un tiro libre que llegó al área donde Christian Sánchez logró hacer contacto el rebote le cayó a Luis Gabriel Rey, quien con la marca de Leandro, disparó. El balón llegó hasta Bernal que alejó el peligro.
Fue hasta el minuto 37 que Pumas reaccionó, tras un tiro libre de Ismael Íñiguez, que entre Cabrera y Verón desviaron Muñoz rechazó de puños y el balón le quedó a Dante López que dispara. La defensa manda a tiro de esquina.
Ya en la recta final del primer tiempo, Leandro buscó el primero con potente disparo en tiro libre que Muñoz consiguió atajar.
Para la segunda mitad, El Tuca hizo dos movimientos, sacó de la cancha a dos ex monarcas, Ismael Iñiguez y Carlos Humberto González, y entraron en su lugar Alex Diego y Óscar Rojas. Los cambios le funcionaron al técnico felino y Pumas comenzó a atacar. A los 46, Jehu Chiapas envió desde la banda derecha un centro que el capitán Romero logró rechazar. Sólo unos segundos después, el argentino tuvo que abandonar el terreno de juego por lesión y entró en su lugar Fernando Salazar.
Pumas aumentó la presión. Luis Fuentes disparo de media distancia tratando de sorprender, pero el balón se fue por un lado del marco.
Monarcas también tuvo las suyas. Al minuto 60, Marvin Cabrera manda por derecha un centro, buscando a Luis Gabriel Rey. Rojas se adelanta y de cabeza saca el balón del campo.
Dos minutos después, Jehú Chiapas robó el balón y llegó hasta el área, sacó un potente disparo de pierna izquierda que pegó por fuera de la red. Monarcas respondió con un desborde de Elías Hernández por la banda derecha. El moreliano mandó centro al área, pero Palacios logro alejar el peligro.
Pumas hizo su tercer cambio. Dante López dejó la cancha para que en su lugar entrara Franciso Palencia. Al minuto 67, Espinosa disparó desde fuera el del área y Muñoz evitó el peligro al mandar el balón por encima del marco.
La primera anotación de Pumas llegó al minuto 69 en un tiro libre. Jehu Chiapas cobró en corto para Rojas quien se acomodó y disparó desde fuera del área para vencer al arquero moreliano.
Tras el gol, Tomás hizo otro movimiento. Aldo Leao, luego de estar fuera de las canchas por lesión, regresó para ocupar el lugar de Kalú Gastélum. También Gabriel Pereyra salió y en su lugar ingresó al terreno de juego Jared Borgetti.
Monarcas estuvo cerca del empate, con un cabezazo de Luis Gabriel Rey, luego de un centro de Elías Hernández, el cual Bernal logró desviar con los puños por encima de la portería.
A nueve minutos de terminar el encuentro, Christian Sánchez cometió falta sobre Jehu Chiapas y el árbitro Morales le mostró el cartón rojo directo. Monarcas se quedó así con 10 elementos.
Pumas buscó sorprender de inmediato en el tiro libre. Chiapas mandó el balón al área donde Palencia logró hacer contacto, pero Muñoz estuvo atento.
Parecía que el marcador final sería de 1-0, pero Pumas consiguió el segundo. Era el minuto 89, cuando Rojas cobró un tiro de esquina por derecha. El balón fue al área, Palencia logró peinar, y Martín Bravo en el aire remató para superar al portero Muñoz.
Con este resultdo, Monarcas se queda con 24 puntos y permanece en la segunda posición del grupo 2. América y Pachuca tienen 22 unidades, por lo que será hasta la fecha 17 ante Monterrey que se defina la calificación.
El Equipo de la Fuerza viajará a Uruguay para enfrentar el próximo miércoles al Nacional de Uruguay dentro de la Copa Santander Libertadores.

Sufre Jaguares para vencer 1-0 a Indios

En medio de un torrencial aguacero, los Jaguares de Chiapas se impusieron 1-0 a los Indios de Ciudad Juárez, en el Estadio Víctor Manuel Reyna en la penúltima jornada del Bicentenario 2010.
Durante la primera mitad, Jaguares intentó irse arriba en el marcador, teniendo los mejores arribos al arco defendido por Christian Martínez, pero sin reflejarlos en el marcador.
En el complemento, Indios se vio en desventaja numérica con la expulsión Jair García, quien así se despidió del torneo.
El bombardeo sobre la meta visitante, y nuevamente Martínez se encargó mantener el cero, aunque no fue el salvador del resultado para el cuadro juarense, ya que al minuto 65 Antonio Salazar aprovechó un rebote para marcar el único tanto del cotejo.
